TURF INSTALLATIONS

From December 1st the water restrictions allow for turf watering so now is a better time than ever to install a new lawn.

With a background in turf management at Australia's highest rated golf course you can be sure your turf installation is done to the highest standard. After working on many nationally renowned sports surfaces our eye for detail is our trademark. No matter whether the turf area is 10 square metres or 10,000 we put every effort in to ensure it is done with care and to a great standard.

Firstly the most important decision to make is what grass suits the area best - not what grass you like the best. If your choice of grass does not handle shade well and it is installed in a shady area the end result will be not what you had in mind. Firstly we look at what grasses suit the area and then you decide which of these grasses you would prefer. There may be times where we can oversew a warmer season grass with a cool season seed to enable all year round colour plus growth in shaded and/ or commonly moist areas.

Following are drought tolerant summer grasses commonly used:

Sir Walter Buffalo
is by far the most popular type of grass used in the residential market due to it's low water requirements and low maintenance. Very easy to maintain and can handle part shade reasonably well.

Legend, Santa Ana and Wintergreen couch grasses are also drought tolerant and handle todays conditions quite well. These grasses and highly used for sports surfaces as they can be cut very low. They also look great for a residential lawn and recover well from wear and tear as they are creeping grasses, but does grow best when in full sun. If the area gets a lot of shade couch grass will not grow to its best but if the area has slight shade it can be oversewn with a cool season grass.

Kikuyu can handle drought conditions best of all. Kikuyu is more invasive than the other common types of grass as it is a vigorous creeping grass. Commonly used on nature strips, council parks, school and council ovals and gardens and residential lawns. Kikuyu is a great grass if you have full sun and dogs that like to destroy a lawn!
